SAMN02951406 S.anulatus_ATCC11523 Streptomyces anulatus Streptomycs anulatus produces the bicyclic chromopeptide actinomycin which is a potent intercalating drug with antineoplastic activities. As part of our studies of actinomycin biosynthesis, we have cloned and sequenced the actinomycin biosynthetic gene cluster in S. anulatus, previously called Streptomyces chrysomallus. In order to gain more insight in the impact of actinomycin biosynthesis in S. chrysomallus, to identify further still missing genes in the biosynthesis of the antibiotic and to evaluate the potential of that strain as a producer of other antibiotics we obtained a draft genome sequence of this strain.
