Its genome was sequenced to identify genes responsible for its extraordinarily high storage of neutral lipids. This strain represents an interesting organism to study triacylglycerol synthesis in streptomycetes. It could also serve as potential feedstock for biodiesel production from lignocellulose-derived saccharides, such as cellobiose.
